How To Come Closer To God - Life, Travel, and Jesus


   Howdy! Over the past few years, I have come closer to God. Coming closer to the creator of the universe over the years has been wonderful. One of the things I have found in coming closer to God is that I see things differently. I have hope and a future in Christ. Here is how I have come closer to Christ, and how coming closer to Christ has changed my life.

  Drawing near God is vital. James 4:7-8 says: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God, and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded." When drawing near God, we must resist the devil, and He will come closer to us. This looks like cleansing our hearts and changing our hearts. Coming closer to God does not mean living in our old ways (sin) with the devil, but doing what the Lord has commanded us to do in His word. Romans 12:2 affirms this. 

   Romans 12:2 says: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Although we have to live in the world, things of the world can lead us down the path farther from God. Mark 7:20-23 tells us the sins of the world. When we sin, we do not please God (Romans 8:8). We are either for God or against God; we cannot be on a fence between the world and God.

   Reading God's word is the number one thing you can do to come closer to God. Joshua 1:8 says: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." Reading God's word will allow you to soak up what God wants you to know, ultimately helping you come closer to God.

      Some more things you can do to come closer to Christ are listen to podcasts, watch sermons online (in addition to going to Church), and switch to Christian music. These have also been super helpful in coming closer to Christ. The podcasts I enjoy listening to are Sadie Robertson's Woah! That's Good podcast and Pricilla Shirer's old podcasts. The sermons I enjoy listening to are from Elevation Church. Christian music has expanded over the last few decades. You can choose anything from Gospel to Christian Dubstep.

Lake and Beach Fun! Vacation 2023 - Haley Owens

          Howdy, everyone! I am super excited to share my vacation blog with everyone. Vacation was so much fun for my family and I. We drove to South Carolina and North Carolina to visit the beach and lake with extended family. Overall, I enjoyed my experience on vacation.           Vacation first started out in South Carolina. My immediate and extended family stayed at a lake house with a boat. Most days looked like riding in the boat and going for a swim. One  thing my sister, dad, and I did was take a walk through a forest park in the area.          The next destination my family went to is Wilmington, North Carolina. Here, we went to a beach town. Most of our days looked like renting a boat, swimming, surfing, or riding bikes. During our time there, we found a small café named Sunday's Café. Their chai tea was the best.          Overall, I enjoyed vacation. Going to North and South Carolina and spending time with family was great. I wish we could have stayed longer.
